Todd Clouser: Music

you keep saying that you love me

You keep saying that you love me

I thought you’d grow tired of my letters
You’d have had enough of my drinking ways
That you’d find you could do much better
That you’d go being carried away

Thought you’d call me a dreamer and beggar
That Id burn another bridge away
That you just told me lies for the better
That I knew but Id never say

Id of sworn to God you’d have had enough by now
That you’d be packing all your things
You’d tie your shoes on your feet
But you keep saying that you love me

I thought you’d grow weary of my singing
But you whistle along anyway
That you’d tell me to stop my dreaming
But you know I couldn’t live that way

Sunday when we went out driving
There’s a lot I wish I could say
I do better putting it in writing
My words are weak without a melody

It I showed how I loved you now, I’d be weak, worn, and beat
Id have no secrets to keep
But you keep saying that you love me

G Bm Em Bm inst.

G D Bm7 A
If I had more to give than what I got, I’d promise you everything

I guess she must have noticed when I saw her
That Im plainclothed and easy
That I had the eyes and hands of a child
But the heart of someone old and beat

But now that Im doing better
Is it too easy taking care of me
I don’t know how to just sit and tell her
That your leaving is the end of me

Id of sworn to God you’d have had enough by now
That you’d be packing all your things
You’d tie your shoes on your feet
But you keep saying that you love me
